Recent car hire customers in the USA have been left disgruntled after finding hidden charges added to their credit cards once their hire period had ended. The charges varied from cancellation fees to energy surcharges. It is believed that some companies have began to add these charges to alleviate losses been felt in the current economic market. The car hire firm Avis plan to offer one and a half thousand free car rentals to UK small and medium sized businesses (SME’s) in order to help them achieve their goal to secure more business from abroad. Avis came on board following news that British Airways were to offer up to fifteen million pounds worth of free flights to help small and medium businesses in their bid to boost exports. There is no doubt that it is a very difficult time financially for many of the worlds leading car manufacturers with sales reportably down by up to 20% on this time last year. Hertz usually purchase over half a million cars every year however they have recently announced the launch of a car sharing club which is aimed at preventing people from buying cars. Plans are afoot to move staff from its business head office in Middlesex to Bracknell. Avis and Budgets brands in Europe, Asia and the Middle East are currently run by Avis Europe.
