Car Hire Firm Reports Drop

Major car hire firm Avis Europe has reported a drop in bookings so far in comparison to last year. The numbers however were predicted by the company so have not come as a surprise. A drop in demand for European car hire was reported with Spain highlighted. Five percent of the companies’ workers lost their jobs this year.  A statement from the company spoke of their cash flow being lower than this time last year due to what was referred to as “intensive management” of their rental fleet. Extra Charge on Credit Card after Hiring a Car

Recent car hire customers in the USA have been left disgruntled after finding hidden charges added to their credit cards once their hire period had ended. The charges varied from cancellation fees to energy surcharges. It is believed that some companies have began to add these charges to alleviate losses been felt in the current economic market. The car hire firm Avis plan to offer one and a half thousand free car rentals to UK small and medium sized businesses (SME’s) in order to help them achieve their goal to secure more business from abroad. Avis came on board following news that British Airways were to offer up to fifteen million pounds worth of free flights to help small and medium businesses in their bid to boost exports. 5% of Avis Europe staff are expected to lose their jobs due to unsustainable costs. 315 workers will be affected as Avis close several rental outlets. Plans are afoot to move staff from its business head office in Middlesex to Bracknell. Avis and Budgets brands in Europe, Asia and the Middle East are currently run by Avis Europe. The company stated that bookings for the last quarter are down on previous years and now looked very unlikely to match last years volume.
