The Easter holiday period saw passenger numbers rise for the first time in fourteen months on British Airways. A 0.9 percent increase was recorded when compared with the same time period last year.

Some Major car hire brokers have noted that if this trend continues that there may be more rental cars needed than was initially predicted. Here at car hire Seville we recommend early booking if you are planning a holiday in Seville.

George Stinnes speaking on behalf of British Airways said that the company remains cautious as Easter holidays are not always a true sign of things to come. He went on to say that first class ticket sales continued to be poor.

A recent article in the Daily Telegraph suggested that car hire customers need to be careful this summer when hiring cars as some unscrupulous companies have not replaced old rental cars due to financial difficulties.

Some holiday locations are also reporting higher car hire prices due to unexpected demand.

Major car hire firm Avis Europe has reported a drop in bookings for 2009 so far in comparison to last year. The numbers however were predicted by the company so have not come as a surprise. A drop in demand for European car hire was reported with Spain highlighted.

Five percent of the companies’ workers lost their jobs this year.  A statement from the company spoke of their cash flow being lower than this time last year due to what was referred to as “intensive management” of their rental fleet.

The wide variety of the Avis customer base and their location was also mentioned while on the upside better fleet management and other cost cutting measures were helping the company through a difficult time.

Reports from Avis also suggest that less people are booking car hire in advance. The company has implemented a pay freeze as well as a limit on seasonal staff hire.

Long lines of people waiting at car hire desks is not something that Holiday makers like to endure. Many times the delay can actually be down to the confusing car hire insurance charges. Most rental car agreements came with basic collision waiver damage however customers are often encouraged at car hire desks to take out excess insurance with the risks being too great to resist.

This can be quite expensive depending on the company. On average you can expect to pay around fifteen pounds for each day of your car hire agreement. This can certainly add up over a long holiday.

When you use our Seville car hire service you are offered an excess insurance add on option during the booking process. If you decide to take this policy you could save yourself up to sixty percent on what you may be charged at the car hire pick up point.

The policy offers great piece of mind for a small financial layout. If you have already booked car hire somewhere else then you can buy a policy separately at Car Hire Insurance. (our partner site)

The best value policies are the monthly options. There is no need to pay crazy insurance prices anymore. Be prepared in advance.

Renting electric cars is becoming more and more popular in Europe, especially in Spain.  The country is working on putting over a million different EV’s, hybrids, and other electric cars on the roads before 2012.  In anticipation of this and to promote the purchase of, or rental of electric cars in Seville, the city is installing 75 electric vehicle recharging stations.

These stations will be available to the public as part of the Movele program.  This network will install the recharging stations in many of Seville’s parking lots, near the airport, and around the most visited official buildings and city hall.  These recharging stations will be found in convenient locations for those renting cars, which will encourage rental car companies to add electric and hybrid vehicles to their offerings.

Seville and Movele officials plan to also provide 500 electric cars to the city.  These cars will be distributed to both public institutions and private drivers for use.  Each recharging station will cost about €1,000.  The city also plans to test smart units at €5,000 each.

These units are capable of recharging all types of electric cars via a prepaid card similar to a credit card.  Seville will also have three round the clock mechanics available who are familiar with electric cars and can assist drivers with any issue.  These mechanics and recharging stations combine to make Seville one of the top cities for owning or renting an electric car.
